Learning to trust the throws of life is key in your being able to use your powers in a healthy way. Sagittarius:  Dear centaur, you are known to fly solo. Your freedom is your most valued possession and you guard that with everything you got. Pisces: Sometimes its hard for people to understand your chaos, little fish. You live in a world where fantasy and realty mesh like a bowl of spaghetti. For your meditation, try creating some boundaries by doing a color by numbers or coloring book exercise. It will be a gentle reminder that not all lines are meant to be crossed.

Last week I was curious as to what kind of crumbs my beloved streamers were craving and I'm thrilled to now share part of the scoop! Adriana is a potato chips gal, Ann likes her dark chocolate bits and pieces and my mom is a good ol' fashion crusty bread lover. Don't ask me why, but it makes very VERY happy to know such things about you.

1.  "Sabbath" for 300 plz:

While world religions maybe "divinely inspired", as their human interpreters, we sure do shed a lot of light onto what makes us tick. You don't have to "believe" in anything, really, to be fascinated and even find value by different traditions and cultures. The other day, I was in the midst of putting together a work date with someone who later I found out "observed" Sabbath. I'm sorry, he said, Saturday, is dedicated to "God". What could that imply, I wondered. So naturally, I asked. He said, it was a day to enjoy oneself and truly relax; which meant, "no work". How lovely, right?

last bite: Chilling out is hard to do. But what if we pretended, for a split second, that doing so was mandatory. Who do you respect the most in the world? Ask them to order you to do something relaxing for yourself! hahaha and then be sure to obey! (in case you were wondering, I went for a veryyyyyy long bikeride this morning AND writing this blog does not constitute as "work") 

2. You say squares, I say value:

I know a guy who likes his pizza, actually no, needs his pizza to be cut in squares instead of triangles. Besides his theory that it "tastes" better that way, he has another, less trivial reason for being "that guy" at the restaurant. "It shows that they care, and that they are paying attention". I have to admit, the first time he hit me with that, I wasn't persuaded. Until he elaborated, " I don't want to eat a place where the cooks are on autopilot, if they cant accommodate a simple change, it shows that the priority is not my enjoyment." It took some time to sink in, but I ended up nodding my head.

last bite: Are there certain "little things" that are actually more like "big things" for you? Are you proud and transparent about them? People who know what they need and actually ask for it are what we would call "powerful". They also end up attracting more power because like attracts like.

Knowing our Name in a World of Alternative Facts.

In the legal bubble there is this thing we call "stipulations" ---- It's a piece of paper that all parties get to look over, edit and negotiate upon, for the purpose of concluding on a certain set of "facts". Without this agreed upon foundation, there is no trial. You wouldn't think such document vital, I mean they are going to fight about it anyway, right. And yet, if all parties are not working from the same "reality", there is no possible way to reach any resolution.

Fast forward to the buzziest term of the day: alternative facts.

This term was originally used by certain politicians to probably oh you know, explain themselves out of a difficult situation; shocker. And yet, just because one ding dong uttered the term "alternative facts" the world has royally lost their shit. (This is what I like to call the folly of the Conservatives and the naivetEH of the Liberals, but that's for ..... a never time.)

The truth is, facts are not the truth.

Facts will always vary, change and be disproved according to the evolution of the eye of the beholder. It is why we keep updating our text books, phones and moisturizers. Information doesn't stay the same. Despite all this, we continue to insist that there is only ONE right way to perceive what we see...(the smartest species, they say.) 

Now, then,

since we've all stipulated to the conclusion that reality is made up of many different versions(see how I did that) how do we choose which one to believe?

Enter hypothetical: uncle Joey thinks the world is about to end, while our besties remind that us that the best is yet to come; meanwhile the breaking news is that pink flamingos are cart-wheeling into outer space after accidentally being fed McDonald's quarterpounders, and the Senate is seconds away from launching who knows what because, clearly, the Flamingos had Russian accents.

Seriously. What on EARTH do we believe?

Like all organisms, our survival instincts are built in. We know, if its cold outside or if the sketchy co-worker is lying because of our senses, our logic, and our intuition. In times of external chaos, deceit, and illusion, our internal GPS is the news station that must be tuned into and listened to ---- daily.

Close the open tabs, and open your eyes.

Sharpen your inner BS meter by spending more time in nature.

Praise your inner forecaster, by thanking your body every time it inhales and exhales.

Give yourself a chance to know, and you will.

In a world that is disassembling the way it understands the truth, make sure you are fiercely in line with your own.

Get off the Super(wo)man Train

Awooooooooooooooooooooo, anyone here a "lone wolf" ?

well, this ones for you.

One of the saddest things that happens when we act superhuman is that we rob the ability of those around us to exercise their power. Their ability to extend love. If you're feeling like crap, my dear friend, allow yourself to let it show. I know that sounds counter-culture, but hear me out.

We are told to smile and be happy and in control, but who is that really benefiting?

The other day, I woke up kinda low. Ok, very low. I tried to fight it, pep up, and get into my usual action oriented awesomeness, but my body was like nahhhh. So I gave up. I surrendered to my need to turn inward.

And that's when it happened; the pack started to show up.

My coworker, clearly sensing the flat line across the table took a whole 10 to 15 minutes to remind me that creative work is the reward, in itself. My mom made spaghetti for dinner. My childhood friend in Greece whatsapped me reminding me of my ability to soothe others and how this would be a great time to flip the switch on myself. Another close but yet again long distance friend, sent me a random video of Anthony Bourdain in Rome, because a scene reminded her of why I do what I do.

Did I need every single ounce of this? You can bet your life that I did.

And you know, I don't like admitting this, but this outpour of unsolicited love took me by surprise. I didn't expect the life-jackets to come in. Not because I don't think people care, but because I tend to underestimate the valuable lesson of being supported.

When we are low, the ones who care for us go high. If we allow them.

Allow us to pick you up. 

Allow the world to do its part.

You're Bipolar, no DUH.

I've done a lot of driving in the past year. Working in the city and laying my head down in the land of lakes, I've learned to appreciated the world of polarities. (Above, is a visual representation of a day in the life of yours truly ---- Sykes Building, downtown Tampa and a random field in Lakeland.)

Words make up the way we comprehend our reality. And while my love affair with them is known, if left examined, their effects can be... misleading, at best and lethal at worst.  

Let's take look at some other examples of "bipolar":

positive/ negative yin/yang

masculine/ feminine

logic/ intuition

wisdom/ knowledge, us/them

conscious/ subconscious

Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts

Nobody is calling those things "wrong" or prescribing them meds to get "better", right?

Because there is nothing inherently wrong with being bipolar. It makes up our internal reference point system; and allows us to gage and balance our experiences.

And yet, how many of us are afraid to embrace our polarities? By always wanting to feel a certain way, and avoiding another. By insisting that one way be right, at the cost of all others.

Let me tell you a secret that I discovered some years back; life is a pendulum.

What goes right, will eventually go left; its how Balance is achieved. (an unavoidable natural law) The middle, which is the still point; does not necessarily imply "no movement", but a happy place where both polarities meet and greet, and are non judgemental of each other; realizing the value they both bring to the table of Life.

A friend of mine taught me a meditation that helps unite the various polarities that rule our perceptions and bodies.

Close your eyes and imagine your right (masculine) and left (feminine) hemispheres of your brain coming closer. Call your conscious ((knowledge) and subconscious (wisdom) minds to merge. With your Breath, bring your fears and your joys into the healing center of your big heart.


You feel that?

That's you becoming "the still point".

And that's where real power (and magic) comes from.

Tasha: I zone out to get into my cooking mode.


1. How did you discover your  love for cooking? 

As a little girl, my sisters and I were taught how to cook by our mother, Theresa.  She is one of the most talented cooks that I have met, so she passed down tips and tricks for whipping up pie crust from scratch or showing us that the closer to the earth your food came from, the better it would be for our health and tastebuds.

2. Take us through what it feels like to be in the kitchen making something; the physical, emotional and mental sensations. 

To be honest, I zone out to get into my cooking mode.  I cannot carry a conversation as I am using all of my physical, emotional, and mental power to tune into the creation.  Sometimes I like to listen to music, but mostly I am finely focused on chopping and preparing the dish.  Once I am able to allow my creativity to drive my next steps, I am focusing on a certain flavor.  All of my dishes must accompany the other and bring a sense of balance and harmony.

 3. Have any lessons from the world of cooking transferred into your daily interactions and life?

A resounding yes, my life passion is cooking.  A more practical lesson learned is that practice makes perfect. When it gets uncomfortable, taxing, or too hot that's when you believe in yourself more than you knew possible.  If you push through this uncomfortable stage, you will surprise yourself and it will open your ability to grow.

  4. What's the one thing you would tell someone who's having a hard time finding or surrendering to something that gives them peace and inner meaning?

When I was three years old, I endured third degree burns from the stove and I could have easily allowed my fear of being burned again prevent me from enjoying my passion for cooking today.  I realized that my gift was far more rewarding to myself and to others, that it's worth the risk. 

So my recommendation to someone with a passion is to go for it and do so fully, the experience that your'e able to manifest through this process is worth it.  The life experiences and doors that will open for you to further your passion will be in abundance.  



Jean: Improv helped me discover a spark that I didn’t experience anywhere else.

1. When did you first discover your love for impov?

I was thumbing through a brochure of classes at the local performing arts center, and when I saw a class for improv my entire gut exploded into a giddiness that I knew I had to pay attention to. When I found out that we would have public performance at the end of the 10-week class I almost quit, but I walked through my fear and it was a wonderful experience to be supported by my fellow improvisers,  to have fun and play,  and hear the laughter of the audience. But, it really took me awhile to discover my true love for it; I enjoyed it and had fun, but it scared me too, and there were times when it wasn’t fun. As much as it scared me and the few negative experiences I kept going back. I once spent a year driving 180 miles once a week to take classes because there were not any that were close by. There were times for various reasons that I couldn’t take classes, but I kept going back when I could; I was discovering a spark that I didn’t experience anywhere else.

2.    Take us through the mental and physical process of improvisation.

Improv is about showing up – being present, collaboration, and being truthful in the moment.

People often think that improv is stand up and being funny, but it’s not, it’s collaboration and honesty. Improvisation is really all about being in the now, the present moment, being fully in your body and listening with all your senses to the other. It’s also about letting go of the filter of believing that we need to be perfect, or it’s not okay to make mistakes. Truth is you have to allow yourself to risk failing, only then can real creativity emerge.  I have spent a lot of years studying mindfulness through yoga, and meditation, but for me improv is mindfulness in action, it is a great way to practice mindfulness. It’s about being present enough to hear another’s’ offer and then being able to respond to that offer and build on it.

We spend a good part of our day improvising, all of our conversations are improvised, but often we are up in our heads thinking about or trying to control how something will turn out. Improv teaches in a very real hands on way the beauty of getting out of your head, being present in the moment, listening to the other, knowing what to say yes to, taking risks and walking through the fear. When that is done real magic happens. 


3.    Would you say that X effects your stance on life in a broader sense, if so, how?

Absolutely; I am much more willing to take healthy good risks that positively impact my life. I find it easier to walk through my fear. In the beginning I really saw how my fear and the chatter in my head would get in the way of me having a good scene. I was so afraid that I would do it wrong, that I would fail. When I’m up in my head thinking about what to say, I’m not fully present to the others on stage and so I will miss wonderful opportunities. When I’m doing this I’m not trusting my partner, or the process. The same is true in life. Often we are so busy trying to figure things out, or planning out what we are going to say, that we aren’t paying attention to what the other is really saying and miss important opportunities. Or maybe “the universe” is offering us a gift in the moment, but we don’t see it because we are too busy trying to figure things out, or fear is holding us back from embracing the present moment. We have this idea of the way things are supposed to be and so we fight against what is. Doing improv you really get to see how this all plays out. So for me personally, I am much more aware of when I’ve jumped into a place of trying to figure things out, or not present in the moment, or I’m operating out of fear; it’s only when I’m aware of it that I can change it.

4.    If you could share one thing with someone who is struggling to "surrender" to a practice that brings them joy/inner peace, what would that be?  

Baby steps and play; “surrendering” to practices that bring me joy/inner peace has been a process. It has been scary to surrender to that energy because I didn’t know where it would take me, or what it will ask of me. I was taught to buckle down, work hard, figure it out, have a plan and then I would have success. Truth is, I have not found success that way. The more I surrender to those practices that bring me joy and inner peace the more I am discovering success. But I also need to accept and hold space for those times when I feel resistance and fear. Generally, I want to ignore them or push through them. But when I finally stop and get present with them honor that truth in the moment I can allow the hidden gift to emerge.
